The mountains in the Appalachian chain are considered to be the oldest in the world. We, who live here, consider them to be the most beautiful. You can get lost in the vastness of this area, so we will give you a few starters.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is the perfect route to follow for your destinations. The road is about twenty minutes away from the Partridge Nest, and, getting there, is just as beautiful. You travel through the Pisgah National Forest passing trail heads, camping, waterfalls, and rivers for fly fishing all the way to the Parkway. Speaking of fishing, rent a canoe, kayak, or take a relaxing tubing trip down the French Broad river provided by Headwaters Outfitters just 8 miles west of Brevard. To see this beautiful area from a totally different perspective, try "Heli-Paddling". Headwaters and Falcon AirLink have teamed up to provide one of the most unique experiences you could hope for. It combines a trip down the river with a helicopter ride to see area waterfalls, mountains, and other attractions from a perspective you could only see from the air. If fine dining and elegance is your preference, the restaurants of Brevard, like Hobnob, will satisfy your taste for the elite. You can also visit the great Biltmore Estates in Asheville (about 40 min.). The world's largest home with acres of gardens, parklands, and managed forests. There is plenty to see and drink at the Biltmore Estate Winery as well. The Brevard Music Center has a Summer Festival Series featuring world renowned classical and jazz musicians for those with fine musical tastes.
Just a 2.5 hour trip south on the Parkway, you will reach the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Ridge upon ridge of endless forest straddling the border between North Carolina and Tennessee, Great Smoky Mountains National Park is one of the largest protected areas in the Eastern United States.
You will have plenty of beautiful memories made here at The Partridge Nest. Take rest.
